Sunday Dinner is a tradition. I mean, if you don’t eat at least one Yorkshire Pudding on a Sunday, are you even British?

I jest! But Sunday Dinners are almost a staple in our house, whether it is a full on roast, a pie, or mince and dumplings, we always fill our boots with gravy and vegetables. Whilst in London, we were invited to The Ship Tavern in Holborn to carry on that Sunday tradition. No matter where you are in the UK, you're guaranteed a good ol’ lunch. The Ship Tavern has been around since 1549, a real treasure of the area.

Located in Holborn, right around the corner from the tube station, you can see the pub’s sign swinging in the breeze, surrounded by stunning flowers. We ventured upstairs to the Dining Room and it was all so cosy. Fabric booths were lit by candlelight and the warm colours gave a homely atmosphere. We were greeted with open arms and a friendly smile and led to our table. The menu was huge, if a roast wasn’t your thing, there were so many other options for you to choose from!

After our large glasses of Rose arrived, myself and Carli both opted for a roast so we could share-sies (‘cos that’s what we do), one chicken and one beef, thank you very much. But before that, we decided we needed some bread and butter to sort out our grumbly tummies. When the roasts came, they were overwhelmingly huge, I knew it would defeat me and it did – but not without a battle! Beneath the huge half chicken sat roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese and an array of vegetables, all dowsed in gravy accompanied by a ginormous pudding. The whole lot was cooked to perfection, with the veg being soft, the chicken tender and roasties light, it truly was a delight to feast on – and I mean feast!

We couldn’t finish our Sunday Lunch off without having a try of the pub’s dessert, naturally, I gravitated to my all time favourite, a brownie. It was uber rich and chocolatey, with a slightly sour sauce that was really interesting. Can I just have it all again, right now, please? Are you a sucker for a Sunday dinner?
