GUEST POST | Porcelain Beauty - Beauty For When You Need To Feel Great

Hey everyone! As I'm away on holiday I thought that I would choose some lovely bloggers to guest post a few times. To celebrate some other blogs I love. Here's the stunning Heather from Porcelain Beauty...

We all have those days when regardless what we seem to do, we just feel a little down in the dumps. When the lovely Megan started requesting guest bloggers, I knew exactly what I wanted to share; how to feel and look great when mentally you're still in bed with a box of chocolates and Netflix. First things first, I'm Heather and I run the predominantly beauty based blog, Porcelain Beauty. Megan's blog was actually one of the first blogs I followed when I started getting interested in this side of the internet and I have a minor girl crush on her, if I'm being honest. I'm so grateful for her allowing me to feature on her blog whilst she's on holiday and, whilst I'm getting everything off my chest, I'm extremely nervous to be posting this for all of her lovely followers to see - I'm sure you'll agree that the standard is set very high in regards to content and photography! Now that we've got all of that out of the way, shall we begin? I think the main thing that allows us to feel better and get on with our lives when we're not feeling out best, is accepting that it's okay to not always be okay. So many times we put on a brave face and get on with our lives, but we feel so guilty for not having our act together; it's okay to have bad days, and it's okay to have days where we never want to leave the comfort of out bed and face society. But what if you're in one of those moods, and you have somewhere important to be? An interview, a date, lunch with your girlfriends or maybe just school/college/university. I thought I would share a few of my favourite ways to embrace the "screw you world" and make sure you look great, even on your bad days.

Skincare
Whenever I'm not feeling my best, I always like to try and pay particular attention to my skin. I'm definitely one of those people that automatically reaches for the box of "I'm going to totally destroy your complexion" whenever I'm not feeling so great and so trying to combat the so obvious side effects of eating the "destroy your complexion in just 5 mouthfuls" is essential if I want to still look great. With the warmer weather, hopefully, just around the corner (it does keep rearing it's head, I promise!) we're all soon going to be shifting from the full-medium coverage bases to the light and breathable offerings, and so clean and healthy looking skin is a must. I personally would highly recommend the double cleanse; I'm sure you've all heard about the double cleanse before, but if you haven't I wouldn't worry too much, it's pretty self explanatory. My favourite cleansing duo currently is the Good Things Argan Cleansing Oil and the La Roche-Posay Micellar Gel; both are great for all types of skin types, even dehydrated and sensitive skin types. A good exfoliator is also a great idea, especially if you suffer from dry skin, and a moisturiser is essential, preferably one with an SPF in - or apply an SPF factor product as an additional step. There's no point spending all this time and money on a good skincare routine if you're going to expose your skin to harsh UVA rays!

Makeup
Applying my makeup in the morning is probably one of my favourite parts of the day. It's one of the only times I really get to sit down and think about whatever I wish, without any distractions. I like to sit and pre-plan my day, week or even month, write a few to-do lists, and normally have a good sing along to the old school classics. Forget Taylor Swift, we're going back to the days where Girls Aloud were the best thing since sliced bread. Or even Atomic Kitten. Anyway, I digress. I tend to try and keep things as minimal and dewy as possible when it comes to my skin. I'm really loving the Bourjois CC Cream at the moment paired with the Urban Decay Naked Concealer, or something like the Inika Mineral Foundation and Concealer. All give a lovely and extremely natural look to the skin; they cancel out any redness, and cover the majority of blemishes, and overall just brighten and even out the complexion a little. If you're looking for something with a little more coverage that still feels lightweight on the skin, I'd highly recommend the Nars Sheer Glow, which is what I personally tend to opt for in these situations! I also love applying a liquid highlighter or illuminating cream; I have so many favourites at the moment ranging from Inika to The Body Shop to Dirty Works and L'Oreal. They're all fantastic and definitely worth looking into but my favourite is probably the Inika Light Reflect Highlighting Cream at the moment, it's basically the liquid version of MAC Soft and Gentle and it looks gorgeous applied lightly to the tops of your cheekbones. The Dirty Works Radiance Cream however is absolutely perfect for anyone with super dull skin and can be applied all over the face without you having to worry about resembling a disco ball! A nice cool toned pink blush can really help boost the skin and make you look a little more healthy and awake, definitely don't be afraid of blush, even if you naturally have quite a pink undertone. I'm currently besotted with the Urban Decay Afterglow 8 Hour Blushes, especially the shade "Obsessed" at the moment, I actually wrote a full review on these over on my own blog if you're interested in finding out more about them. You can read that here! Last but not least is a good bold red lipstick. It believe it to have magical powers to transform your mood from bad to good in just seconds. I love a cool-toned red as it brightens up my skin and makes my teeth look a lot whiter. Something like MAC Russian Red is a gorgeous option, but I've personally found myself reaching from the Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick in the shade "So Marilyn".

So now you've pampered your skin, applied a little makeup and had a good sing along to your favourite tunes, you're ready to head out of your safe-zone and face society. I suggest making a quick stop by the kitchen to have some form of breakfast and fill up a bottle of water, and you're good to go! Remember, never face society on an empty stomach, especially when you're already in a bad mood. Hangry is real, and it will take over your entire day until you stop to fulfil its need.

How do you embrace the "screw you world"?

Heather xx
