A high coverage, matte base is something that I never usually go for. I prefer my skin to look dewy and, well, skin-like. So trying out this little duo was a complete new venture for me…

When I had seen the Vichy Dermablend range in my local Boots store before, for some reason I had always associated it with those who wished to cover acne. With their main selling point of being able to provide a high coverage to those who wanted it, it personally had never really appealed to me. After using these products on my face in these pictures and getting complimented on my skin I decided to report back to you with my thoughts.

The Dermablend Fluid Corrective Foundation (£18) is a lot different to my usual Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum, but I have loved using it for very different reasons. I noticed the high pigmentation immediately once I applied it, which made it clear which areas needed more coverage or if there were any spots that I had missed. I did find however, that you have to work quite quickly with the product as it does begin to dry into the skin due its matte formula. Despite the full coverage however, the product is comfortable to wear, doesn’t feel drying and doesn’t leave a cakey look to the skin. It also has SPF 35, so extra protection against harmful rays is fabulous – but please – no flash photography!

Although the foundation is super long lasting on its own, for maximum wear time I finished my base with the Dermablend Setting Powder (£17). It’s kind of going along with this whole ‘baking’ trend as you apply it to your face, leave it for a couple of minutes and then brush away the excess. The powder is white, so no extra colour is added to the skin, it simply adds an extra layer of invisible coverage. It is said to act as a super barrier to extreme conditions when applied over the foundation, becoming resistant to the likes of sweat and water. I haven’t tried this because I don’t wear make-up underwater or when exercising so I can’t vouch for it in that respect. If you love a super matte finish – then you’ll love this powder.

Although matte isn’t my favourite finish and not one I often go for, it was a lovely change and I will definitely be reaching for this combo when I need/fancy a fuller coverage! Let me know in the comments below what type of coverage you go for and if you have tried the Vichy Dermablend range – I would love to know your thoughts!
